The 83rd Infantry Division spent a total of 270 days in contact with the enemy. During this time the Division suffered a total of 23980 casualties of wich 15248 were combat casualties. Of the 68 divisions the US Army deployed in the European Theater of operations, the 83rd was ninth in the number of combat deats with a total of 3620 GI's Killed In Action while fighting with the Division. Overall the division had 170,2 percent replacements.
